Totem Pole

Get kids excited about math with this fun hands-on collaborative project. Typically done during a Family Math Night event, this project can also be done in the classroom. The best part is, each person is individually represented in the final product!

A totem pole is made up of symbols or figures to communicate stories, events, or anything important in the lives of the people who create them. In this fun project, participants will design an individual section of the totem pole. Bilateral/mirror symmetry is a big part of this project. Students also get to practice measurement and beginning fractions.
