Family Math Night Station Set-Up
There are 8 stations in each of our family math night kits. All the materials and manipulatives for each of the 24 activities (8 stations x 3 activity levels) is included in the kits. The photo above reflects how I get ready for event night. I have 8 handled bags for easy carrying. Each bag reflects one of the stations. Shown above are the bags for our Gellin’ with Geometry kit.
In the bags are all the materials, activity sheets, and manipulatives needed for that station. To make filling the bags easy, the kit materials list located in the Family Math Night Coordinator Packet lists which materials go with which station. I take out an item from the kit and place it in the correct bag.
And that’s it. Easy peasy. I throw the bags in the back of my Prius and head to school. I allow one hour for set up. That includes making sure the tables are set up correctly, putting on tablecloths , setting out the table tents and materials, and hanging the banners. Sometimes I include an estimation jar and/or raffle table. And I’ve recently gotten into having a What Do You Notice? activity. But that’s just a matter of finding a place on the wall to tape my poster.
Then I like to stand back and take it all in when I’m done. That’s an easy 10 minutes!
But my favorite part is watching all the kids and their families enjoying their time together doing fun and engaging math activities.
