Family Math Night 10-frames Sign-In
Here’s a super fun way to have kids sign in to your next Family Math Night event – colorful post-it notes and 10-frames. Here’s what it looked like at our event:
I used large inch graph paper to make the 10-frames. Of course, each square needed to be large enough to fit the 3″ x 3″ post-it.
As students entered the event they each signed in by writing their name on a post-it and then adding it to the 10-frame. I had one of my student facilitators helping to make sure that students added their post-it to the correct 10-frame as I wanted them to be filled in from left to right starting at the top. In other words, the first 10-frame on the top left got filled in with 10 post-its then the 10-frame on the top right, and so forth.
Once the 10-frames start to fill in, it becomes a fun way to get students to practice skip counting by tens. For those students who needed it, I posted a 0-120 number chart (not pictured) to help with the skip counting by tens. Next time I use these 10-frames as a sign-in, I will use only two post-it colors. That way students can see different combinations to 10.
