Bug Box Station Kit

Hands-on and super fun, this Family Math Night Bug Box station will get the creative juices flowing!

Participants choose one of their favorite (plastic!) bugs and use 2- and 3-dimensional geometry along with number skills to create a rectangular prism. Participants will walk away with a custom designed box for their bug which they get to bring home and share with others.

It‘s the perfect STEAM project!

Beginning Level (K-1)

Students will choose the best fit box for their bug, describe the shapes in their net, count bug legs, create a rectangular prism, and learn about interesting scientific facts about bugs.

Common Core Connections

Intermediate Level (2-3)

Students will choose the best fit box for their bug, measure length in centimeters, determine the area of their net, create equations for the area model of multiplication, create a rectangular prism, and learn about interesting scientific facts about bugs.

Common Core Connections

Advanced Level (4-5)

Students will measure length, width and height in centimeters, use centimeter grid paper to design a net for their bug, use visual/spatial skills to create a rectangular prism, discover the formula for volume of a rectangular prism, and learn about interesting scientific facts about bugs.
